The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) on Friday disqualified former Governor Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo and five other governorship aspirants seeking to contest the party’s ticket for the November 16 governorship elections in Anambra State.
Soludo is among the 14 aspirants who bought APGA’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for a ticket to vie for the November governorship election. He was screened on Tuesday by a panel set up by the leadership of the party.
But yesterday, the screening panel headed by, Alhaji Tayo Sowunmi; in a statement said that Soludo and five other aspirants failed the screening test. Other members of the panel include, Mr. Ifeanyi Mbaeri and Chief Onwuka Ukwa.
The six aspirants that failed the screening include, Emmanuel Nweke, Ogbuefi Tony Nnaechetta, Chinedu Francis Idigo, and Dr. Chike Obidigbo, immediate past Secretary to Anambra State Government, Oseloka Obaze and Prof. Soludo. They have today and tomorrow to appeal their disqualification.
The panel however announced that seven aspirants were successful. The successful aspirants are, Hon. Chukwuemeka Emmanuel Nwogbo, Paul Odenigbo, Hon. Uche Lillian Ekwunife, Chief Willie Obiano, John Nwosu, John Okechukwu Emeka and Nwachi Patrick Obianwu.
Although the statement refused to explain why Soludo and others were disqualified, a member of the committee who pleaded anonymity said the reasons ranged from non-presentation of voters card, lack of evidence of financial strength to execute the campaign, incomplete certificate and their inability to submit tax clearance.
Reacting to his disqualification, one of the aspirants expressed surprise at the decision?
The aspirant who spoke to our reporter, at the APGA headquarters, venue of the screening said he is going to make another presentation to the appeal panel today.
He said they were informed that evidence of financial status was going to be part of the screening requirements.
