Iranian woman barred from office because she's too beautiful

Looking at her photos she's definitely pretty but how is she too pretty to be a council woman? 27 year old architect Nina Siahkali Moradi finished 14th among 163candidates in a city council election in Iran but was told a week later that all votes for her were nullified.

According to The Times of London, after news spread that Moradi had been elected, religious conservatives petitioned to have her disqualified because she's 'too attractive.' and would be a cause of distraction. "We don’t want a catwalk model on the council," a senior official in Qazvin said.

The review board later claimed Nina was disqualified not because she was too attractive but because of her 'non-observance of Islamic codes'. Some who opposed her election said she had only been elected because she is young and attractive.

A law expert in Qazvin, told Iran Wire that the review board violated election law with its decision to bar Moradi from taking a seat.

R&B music star R Kelly has volunteered to remain in South Africa to honour Madiba and share the stage with the likes of Yvonne Chaka Chaka this weekend.The American singer is part of the line-up for Saturday’s Nelson Mandela Sports and Cultural Day at FNB Stadium.
Earlier in the day, there will be a soccer match, at 11am, featuring South African and Italian legends, followed by a 1pm clash between Bafana Bafana and Burkina Faso.

Teenager stabbed to death yards from his home

A 16-year-old boy stabbed to death in a double knife attack in east London was described as a 'splendid young man' today.

The teenager, named locally as Ajmol Alom, was knifed with a friend in Spey Street, Poplar, east London, at around 10pm last night.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder this morning and remains in custody.
The victim's uncle today said he was 'an A* student who was going to do big things', and was due to get his GCSE results on Thursday.

A bride who joked about her new husband 'breaking her legs' was found dead at their home after he found out he was infertile.

Simone Jabakhanji, 27, from Leyland in Lancashire had been rowing with her businessman husband Mohammed, 29, after he was given the devastating news by doctors, an inquest into her death was told.

In the days leading up to her death she even told her mother back in England that she was frightened of him and needed to give him 'quiet space.'

But she was found hanged at their home in the West African country’s capital city of Banjul, on August 13, 2011.

Probably, the most publicised conversion to Christ is that of Eucheria Anunobi. The actress fondly called UK by her friends has been the subject of various controversies and scandals, topmost of which bordered around her relationships, broken marriage and eventually her demand for her ex-husband to keep providing for the only son of their union, whom she has in her custody.

After many years of being in the news for all the wrong reasons, many were surprised when she announced
she had given her life to Christ. Few months after the news broke, UK was ordained at the Fresh Oil Ministry, Egbeda, Lagos, as an evangelist.

The ordination was performed by Pastor Psalm Okpe, who anointed the top Nollywood actress, accompanied by other men of God. Some of her close colleagues like Susan Peters and Clarion Chukwurah were on hand to support their friend during the ceremony.

With her ordination, Eucharia can fully preach as a pastor. In fact, it is said that she already counsels youths in the church. This, however, has not taken away some of the traits that made her fans term her “a bad girl” before now. UK is still flashy. Just weeks after the ordination, she got a BMW X5. It is not clear if it’s a gift or a personal purchase.

UK has, however, vowed to use her fame to win souls for Christ. She also assured her teeming fans that she would not abandon her acting career, pointing out that she would be choosier in accepting roles in movies.

Nigeria’s national anthem rent the air yesterday in Moscow, courtesy of the brilliance of Blessing Okagbare who won silver for the country.
Blessing who went into the world athletics championship as Nigeria’s biggest medal hopeful did not disappoint in the long jump event as her leap of 6.99 was good enough to give Nigeria silver.

Blessing had after her long jump feat vowed to give Nigeria another medal in the women’s 100 meters event whose final comes up today. The Sapele girl alongside her compatriot Gloria Asumunu last night qualified for the semi final.

Okagare running in heat 5 came first returning an impressive time of 11.03 seconds, while Asumunu made it to the semi in heat 4 with a time of 11.27 seconds finishing third. The semi final of the women’s100m semi final event comes up 12.30 pm Nigerian time with the final billed for 6.50 pm.

Olympic champion Usain Bolt lived up to his billings in the men’s 100 meters event winning gold in a time of 9.77 seconds under the rain.American Justin Gatlin won silver in 9.85 and Bolt’s countryman Nesta Carter took bronze in 9.95.

The gold medal in the women long jump event went to America’s   Brittney Reese who became the first woman to win three long jump titles at the world championships, leaping 7.01 metres.

Chris Attoh announces his exit from Tinsel

The end has come for yet another ‘Tinsel’ cast member as Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh has announced his exit from the show. Chris who played the role of Kwame Mensah on Tinsel will be written out of the show over the next few months as he shoots his last scenes in the month of September.

Chris has reportedly left the show to pursue other interests. According to the actor, ’The last seven years on ‘Tinsel’ have been an incredible journey and experience for me. Working with Mnet was phenomenal and it took a lot of deliberation but I have decided to pursue other career interests.’

Chris Attoh’s shocking exit comes less than a year after former cast member Damilola Adegbite’s equally shocking exit from the show late last year which leads us to ask, could trouble be amiss the hit show or are the actors really leaving to pursue other interests?

Also in the same month, police detectives arrested an auctioneer, simply known as Barnabas, who had successfully smuggled out a container load of electronics which he claimed was sold to him by Customs officials.

This is one artiste who got us grooving back in the days. The R’n’B crooner born Alex Okoroigwe but popularly known as Alex O has a lovely voice and actually dictated the pace of the Nigerian music industry with his classic songs, most especially Pretty women, which can still rule the air-waves, if  remixed.

The Imo State born musician, ALEX "O", started his music career as a singer and performer trainee under Uncle Steve Rhodes, the famous Nigerian Musicologist and Television producer in Lagos, 1983. He later joined Lemmy Jackson Music Company and worked as a production assistant, song writer, arranger and voice trainer.


Two years later, an opportunity came knocking on his door which later resulted in the release of his first album in 1988 under Polygram Record Label but popularly known as Premier Music in Nigeria. This was his turning point and marked the beginning of a dream come true for him.

What The F*** Would Jesus Do?': Female VICAR causes stir with obscene car sticker

A female vicar yesterday insisted she has not sinned against God by putting an obscene bumper sticker reading 'WTFWJD' on the back of her car.

The Reverend Alice Goodman stuck the sticker, standing for ‘What The F*** Would Jesus Do?', on the back of her red Subaru Legacy - sparking outrage from members of her parish.

But the Reverend insists the sticker is harmless and even the former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams was happy to accept a lift in her car in the past.

Police dismisses seargent who asked for 25k bribe

Lagos State Police command on Wednesday confirmed the dismissal of a Police Sergeant, Chris Omeleze for demanding for bribe from a motorist

The orderly room trial of Omeleze, attached to the Lagos State Motor Traffic Division,MTD who was caught on video demanding for bribe, which began on Tuesday, culminated in his dismissal yesterday.

The command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide confirmed the dismissal, saying “yes, he has been dismissed”.

She added that the police authorities would soon decide on further action against him.

Former Deeper Life Pastor And Nigeria UN Mission Lawyer, Eric Abakporo, Convicted On Fraud Charges, Faces Up To 30 Years In Prison

 

A jury in New York has convicted Nigeria-born lawyer and former Deeper Life Bible Church pastor, Ifeanyichukwu Eric Abakporo, on charges of fraud, and he could spend a maximum term of 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on November 12, 2013.

Abakporo was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and bank fraud. The first and third charges each carry a maximum of 30 years in jail, while wire fraud carries a maximum of 20 years.

Abakporo’s co-conspirator, Latanya Pierce, who was also found guilty on all three counts, faces the same predicament. She will be sentenced separately on December 9, 2013.

Last February, a grand jury of the United States District Court Southern District of New York indicted Abakporo and Pierce on the charges, and recommended that they forfeit to the government a wide variety of properties related to their offences, as well as a sum of money representing the approximate amount of proceeds obtained as a result of the offences.

BRYMO gets a new manager,signs new deal

He might still have contractual issues with his record label but BrymO seems to be moving on…

The Pop singer has apparently signed a new distribution deal with digital distribution company Spinlet. According to a tweet from Spinlet, the company will be digitally distributing BrymO’s next album.

The deal was signed some sometime last week, apparently without the knowledge of his current record label Chocolate City which he says he’s parted ways with.



A rep from Spinlet also confirmed the deal. When asked if they had contacted Chocolate City before the signing, the rep said no but then explained that it was an individual deal.

BrymO has also signed a deal with budding management company The Bail Music Company. Headed by long time friend Lanre Lawal, the company will now be handling his managerial affairs formerly managed by manager Samuel Lolo.

‘Yes I’m now working with BrymO. He’s been a longtime friend of mine‘, Lanre Lawal told CBG over the phone, explaining that they hooked up some months ago. As per how Chocolate City would react to BrymO’s new deal with Spinlet, Lawal said he would rather not comment on that.
