Queen Elizabeth II down to her last million due to overspending

According to new reports, the Queen of England is down to her last $1.6m in reserves after royal overspending. She was once the richest woman in the world (in the 80s) and in 2010 Forbes mag estimated her net worth at around $450 million and now she's broke? Nah!! Read the report below..

Perhaps Queen Elizabeth II could learn something from her thrifty granddaughter-in-law Kate Middleton. The 87-year-old monarch has been overspending the royal family's famous fortune, according to a report published by the Commons Public Accounts Committee on Monday, Jan. 27.

Following her courtiers' advice, Her Majesty the Queen's reserve fund has fallen from £35 million ($58 million) in 2001 to just £1 million ($1.6 million) in 2014. The report states the royal family is "spending above their means and dipping into the reserves...the balance now stands at an all-time low." Continue...

Four years after her 2010 separation from singer 9ice amidst cheating rumours, publicist and spoken word artist Toni Payne has finally addressed the rumours that has followed her for years. Toni & 9ice got married on July 17th 2008 and by January 2010, a year and a half later, the marriage was over. There were several reports at the time that she was caught cheating. 9ice actually started the cheating rumours by making a song where he said his woman cheated on him with a friend. People assumed he was referring to his wife and a rapper friend, who he later seriously quarreled with in the media

A Salvadorean nun who said she had no idea she was pregnant gave birth in Italy this week after she felt stomach cramps in her convent and was rushed to hospital, Italian media reported on Friday.

The 31-year-old mother and her baby boy, who weighs 3.5 kilograms (9 pounds), are doing well and other new mothers in Rieti hospital have begun collecting clothes and donations for her, the reports said.

"I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain," the nun was quoted as saying at the hospital, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. Continue...

Wife of Indian minister found dead

The wife of Indian minister Shashi Tharoor has been found dead, following reports he had an affair, Indian media say. Sunanda Pushkar is reported to have been found dead in a five-star hotel in Delhi, according to police sources.

The couple became embroiled in controversy over a series of Twitter messages on Wednesday Jan. 15th that appeared to reveal he was having an affair with Pakistani journalist, Mehr Tahrar. They later insisted they were happily married, blaming "unauthorised tweets". Ms Pushkar admitted publishing the tweets, but later denied it.

Car Bomb Explodes In Maiduguri

 

A car bomb has exploded in Maiduguri, and there are fears of many casualties, the BBC reports.

Blood-spattered people were seen fleeing and vehicles crashed into each other, while soldiers fired automatic weapons. A suicide bomber is suspected of being behind the blast, reportedly near a market.

The military confirmed to the BBC that an explosion had occurred, but did not give a figure for casualties. An eyewitness said he had seen what appeared to be dead bodies on the ground. A second car is reported to have been set on fire by the blast

Gays Worldwide Protest Against Nigeria

Gays all over the world are mobilising for actions against Nigeria over the Same sex Prohibition law signed by President Goodluck Jonathan last week.

The leading gay nation on earth, the USA has already voiced its concern.

According to the Secretary of State, John Kerry in a statement:
“The United States is deeply concerned by Nigeria’s enactment of the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act. Beyond even prohibiting same-sex marriage, this law dangerously restricts freedom of assembly, association, and expression of Nigerians. Moreover, it is inconsistent with Nigeria’s international legal obligations and undermines the democratic reforms and human rights protections enshrined in its 1999 Constitution.

People everywhere deserve to live in freedom and equality. No one should face violence or discrimination for who they are or who they love. We join with those in Nigeria who appeal for the protection of their fellow citizens’ fundamental freedoms and universal human rights.”

Outside the US statement of disapproval, the gay community are rallying themselves for a series of actions against Nigeria.

N255m car scandal: Panel indicts Stella Oduah

According to a report by Punch, the committee set up by President Jonathan to probe the N255m bulletproof car scandal in the aviation ministry has indicted Aviation Minister, Ms. Stella Oduah.

It was gathered  in Abuja on Sunday  that the report of the presidential committee tallied  with some findings of the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation on the scandal. On  December 19, 2013, the House endorsed the report of its committee and agreed that the minister breached the 2013 Appropriation Act.

It was learnt on Sunday that the  panel, like that of  the House, also discovered that the minister’s approval for the cars exceeded the N100m limit.

A top government source, who disclosed this to Punch on Sunday, said although the committee indicted Oduah , it did not say whether she should be sacked or not.

 But sources told Punch  that there was every likelihood of the President using the cabinet shake -up that would follow the presentation of his ministerial list to the National Assembly to relieve himself of Oduah’s continued presence in his government.

Members Of Grass Eating Church Swear They Received Healings After Eating Grass

Days after series of online complaints were prompted because a South African preacher, Pastor Lesego Daniel of Rabboni Centre Ministries, made his congregation eat grass in order to 'be closer to God' before stamping on them, his members have come out to defend their pastor.

Yes, we eat grass and we're proud of it because it demonstrates that, with God's power, we can do anything," one of his members Rosemary Phetha told South Africa's Times Live.

According to the 21-year-old Unisa law student, she had been battling a sore throat for more than a year.
She claims it was healed after Daniel "turned me into a sheep and instructed me to eat grass".

Another member, 27-year-old Doreen Kgatle who suffered a stroke two years ago said:

"I could not walk but soon after eating the grass, as the pastor had ordered, I started gaining strength and an hour later I could walk again.

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson and celebrity blogger ,Linda Ikeji are at war over a report on Linda’s blogHours ago, Linda Ikeji reported that ex-lovers, Yvonne Nelson and Singer Iyanya will be starring in a movie titled, ‘The Ransom. The report however, did not go own well with Yvonne Nelson as she faulted Linda’s report openly on the social media.

Manchester City sign wonderkid Iheanacho on pre-contract

Nigerian wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho has signed a pre-contract with Manchester City and will arrive at the Etihad in October, his father has confirmed.

The Premier League outfit have resurrected the move for Iheanacho and agreed terms after a dispute between his parents and the club arose over bonus payments threatened to collapse a deal last month.

The teenager, who won the Golden Ball at the Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last autumn, is currently on holiday in Barcelona and will return to Nigeria before moving to Manchester when he turns 18 in 10 months’ time.

“He can’t sign but what he has done is sign a pre-contract with Manchester City pending his 18th birthday,” Iheanacho’s father James told brilafm.net at the Confederation of African Football's gala award ceremony in Lagos.

Iyetade Soyinka,Wole Soyinka's Daughter Laid to rest

The remains of the second daughter of Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, Iyetade Soyinka was  laid to rest today Friday January 10th in Ibadan. A service held at the Chapel of the Resurrection, University of Ibadan, while the interment took place at the Ultimate Gardens, a private cemetery.

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, Ogun state officials, family and friends attended the burial. Iyetade died Dec 28th after a brief illness.

"I did not even think twice about it, I had it and I gave it to him. He is my husband, the father of our children and I love him. This is somebody I have been with all my life. I did not tell anybody before I decided to, not even my parents because I had foreseen their reaction. There was no reason to inform them.  When I married him, I told God I wanted the both of us to grow old together and live to see many generations. I am sure God knew this situation before he brought us together because not only am I a match for him, we are the same blood group and we are both stubborn.

High court bombed in Rivers State

A High Court in Ahoada East LGA of Rivers State was bombed this morning Monday January 6th, according to reports from the state.

The bombing of the court where Justice Charles N. Wali usually holds court, reportedly occurred on Monday morning a few hours before a politically charged suit against Hon Evans Bipi, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and leader of a group of 6 lawmakers, who has been unlawfully parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Justice Wali had about a month ago ordered Bipi to stop parading himself as Speaker of the House as the tussle over control of the state government between loyalists of the Presidency and the Rivers Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, lingers with an end in sight. No casualties have been reported over the bombing as at the time of filing this report.
