Helen Paul Signs Globacom & GoTV Deals

Helen Paul has joined the league of respected ambassadors of telecommunications giant, Globacom. She signed the mouth-watering deal in May, but it was only made public earlier this week.

Helen, who is famously known as Tatafo on radio, also signed an endorsement deal with GoTV, a cable television station owned by Multichoice the same month.

Basketball legend Michael Jordan is 'now a billionaire' says Forbes

Basketball legend Michael Jordan has reached billionaire status. Forbes Magazine estimates that Jordan's equity as owner of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets is $416million and his net worth outside of the team to be $600million. It reported Jordan now owns 89.5 per cent of the Hornets. 

Jordan's spokeswoman, Estee Portnoy, confirmed that Jordan purchased an additional stake in the Hornets in January 2013, but wouldn't say how much. Portnoy had no comment on whether or not Jordan is a billionaire. 

A six-time NBA champion with Chicago Bulls, Jordan earned fame and fortune on the basketball court, as well as through endorsements and movies. 

The 51-year-old became the majority owner of the Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) in 2010 when he bought out Bob Johnson's share of the team.

Oyegun is new APC Chairman

Dr. John Odigie-Oyegun, a former Governor of Edo State was on Saturday morning elected as the first substantive chairman of Nigeria’s mega opposition party, the All Progressives Congress.
He took over from Chief Bisi Akande who has occupied the position in interim capacity since APC was formed last year.

Oyegun, who was widely believed to be the preferred candidate became the only aspirant standing for the position after his main challenger, Timipre Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa state who is the preferred candidate of APC Governors from the Northern part of the country was persuaded to step down.

CELEBGISTS  gathered that the Bayelsa State Governor and two other aspirants stepped down following intense negotiations and horse trading between party leaders whic spanned at least three days in Abuja.
Specifically, it was learnt that Sylva stepped down after the governors were convinced on the need to support Oyegun for the position at an enlarged meeting of the elders of the party some hours before the commencement of the convention

Singer Kefee has passed on

Been holding on to the news because I wanted to be 100% sure it's true...unfortunately it is. Our Branama queen is gone. Kefee Obareki Don Momoh passed away this morning June 13th at the US hospital where she was taken to after she collapsed and went into coma. She never came out of the coma. Her international manager Adeline has confirmed her passing and Kefee's husband also confirmed to a Star FM staff, where he works. What a sad day. May her soul rest in peace..Amen.

This is just too sad! She was just in her mid 30s...looking forward to a great future...recently released a song...working on an album, spent 8 months in the US to  pursue courses in video production and directing so she could pursue her dreams...and now she's gone. Too sad!

19-Year Old Nigerian Teenager Becomes UK'S Youngest Councillor

A 19-year old Nigerian teenager, Aisha Eniola who resides in the United Kingdom has emerged the youngest councillor in UK.

Taking after her father who was once a councillor, Eniola who represents the Harlesden Ward, won the residents of the ward over with her intelligence which showed through during the pre-election debates.

She had the highest overall votes of 2,160 beating her other counterparts who had 459 and 313, to emerge the youngest councillor in UK. The final year student of Mass Communication says she hopes her victory will encourage other young people to participate in politics.

Kenny after few minutes came after me and asked me to talk in front of my guy friend. My friend laughed and said "they are here looking for you again as usual" and he left. So now I was stuck with Kenny to talk to.

He told me he liked me and I should please honor him by giving him my number. I felt reluctant and told him to give me his instead. He refused and pleaded. He pulled out his phone but unfortunately for him his phone was dead. I was happy but then he ran to his friend to get his phone so he can enter my number. I was standing there like "damn it."

11 killed, two churches razed in fresh Plateau attack

No fewer than 11 people, among whom were five security operatives, were said to have been killed when gunmen attacked  Gako and Tanjol communities in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Two churches were also burnt in the attack, said to have been carried by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The incident, said to have occurred around 5am on Wednesday, came less than 24 hours after  the Ardo  of the Fulani in Riyom, Alhaji  Mohammad Adamu,  alleged that gunmen suspected to be Berom youths, attacked the herdsmen cattle, killing 60 and seriously injuring 35.

Executive Director, Stefanos Foundation, Mr. Mark Lipdo, said the villagers had received intelligent report that some Fulani had arrived Mahanga, a remote Fulani community in Riyom, where the military had carried out an operation to rid the area of arms following the July 7, 2012 attack which killed over 100 people, including the Senator, representing Plateau North, Dr. Gyang Dantong.

Ekiti State Deputy Governor's daughter loses husband

 

The deputy Governor of Ekiti state, Professor Mrs Modupe Adelabu recently lost her son-in-law, Dr Oluwaseun Fasawe (pictured right). Late Dr Fasawe, a medical consultant & Chief Medical Director of Silver River Healthcare was married to the 1st daughter of the deputy governor, Dr Dolapo Fasawe ... (pictured left).

According to family sources, the late Dr Fasawe left for London on Monday May 19th for what was called corrective surgery scheduled for June 2nd. He reportedly started having difficulty in breathing on Thursday May 29th while in London and called a friend to notify him. The friend immediately called for an ambulance but sadly, while on their way to the hospital, he died.

 

Late Dr Fasawe is survived by his wife and two sons. He will be buried tomorrow June 12 2014. May his soul rest in peace.

Boko Haram Kills 5 in a Siege Around Chibok

Suspected members of the outlawed Boko Haram have laid siege on two villages in Borno, killing at least five persons and carting away food items and livestocks.

Residents of the area told journalists that armed hoodlums believed to be members of the outlawed sect  invaded the two villages, Tohya and Wurojene near Chibok, the town where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted on April 14.

According to them, the attackers opened fire on the villagers as soon as they sneaked into the area at about 7pm on Monday, killing at least five people.

I first met the late Professor Dorathy Nkem Akunyili, OFR (fondly called Dora) during her days as Honourable Minister of Information under former President   Umar Musa Yar’Adua of blessed memory. At that time I was the Secretary of our ever vibrant Abuja Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). The Honourable Minister as she then was had invited members of the Association along with our patrons to a breakfast parley at the Sheraton Hotels.

The meeting was supposed to initiate a partnership between the literary community and the ministry of information for the purpose of ‘rebranding’ Nigeria our beloved country. For Dora, rebranding Nigeria involved patronizing home made goods and creating a conducive environment where Nigerians will make a decent living.  It also involves the outside world seeing Nigeria as a country of hardworking patriots and not a country known to the international community as a den of scammers, thieves, prostitutes and all manners of vices known to humanity. Dora had good intention for her country. She wanted to change the unfavourable perception the world held Nigeria and Nigerians. Dora loved Nigeria. Dora want Nigerians to be respected anywhere they are in the world.  Whatever flaw she may have as a human probably emanates from this passion.

Nigeria Gunmen Seize 20 Women Near Site of Schoolgirl Kidnap

 

Suspected Islamist gunmen abducted about 20 women from a nomadic settlement, near the northeastern Nigerian town of Chibok, where more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped two months ago, a local official said.

The ethnic Fulani women were taken after the assailants attacked a settlement known as Garkin Fulani, at midday Sunday, and ordered the women into their vehicles at gunpoint. Alhaji Tar, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, said in a phone interview, confirmed this. They were driven off to an unknown location, he said.

The family of a 28-year-old woman, Vivian Ndukwu, has demanded that the marriage rites of their late daughter must be performed by a pastor of the Christ Embassy, who has been accused of being responsible for the pregnancy that allegedly led to her death.

It was gathered that the 29-year-old pastor, identified simply as Hillary, was being detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba, Lagos.

He was accused by the family to have had a secret romantic relationship with the deceased, who was a choir member in the church.

It was said that in order to avoid scandals, the couple decided to keep the relationship a secret. The secret romance continued until Vivian became pregnant.

When it became obvious that they could no longer keep the pregnancy a secret, Vivian was said to have agreed with Hillary that she should relocate to Agbara town in Ogun State to stay with a woman who had an orphanage.

Ghana witch doctor says he's responsible for Ronaldo's injury

A well known Ghanaian spiritualist named Kwaku Bonsam (pictured above) claims he is responsible for Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury. Last week, the Portuguese striker was diagnosed with tendonitis in his left kneecap area, he also has a muscle problem in his left thigh.

Bonsam now claims he used witchcraft to give Ronaldo the muscle problems to prevent him from playing against Ghana in the world cup. Ghana, Portugal, USA and Germany are in Group G.

Car auto parts dealer excretes 52 wraps of cocaine

 

36 year old Imo-state born Anabaronye Ken, an auto parts dealer based in Lagos has been arrested by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials after he excreted 52 wraps of cocaine at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. He was arrested as he was about to board a flight to France en route Milan, Italy. It took Ken four days to excrete all the drugs from his system, Punch reports

 

When interrogated, Ken said he went into the business to better the life of his family and prayed that he be released on time so he can witness the birth of his unborn child as his pregnant wife is due to give birth soon. Continue...
