A police officer simply identified as Medugwu mistakenly shot himself
dead while adjusting a rifle at the Mobile Police Force 20, in the Ikeja
area of Lagos on Tuesday August 25th.
According to Punch, Medugwu who was attached to MOPOL 20 and the
second-in-command to the armorer, accidentally pulled the trigger while
adjusting his rifle when a bullet was fired from it, piercing through
his jaw.

A court in Saudi Arabia has dropped the charges of manslaughter and sexual
assault against the father of Luma, the 5-year-old daughter he had beaten
to death in 2011. His sentence was reduced to only the charge of 'excessive
disciplining that resulted in death'. According to Saudi Daily Al Sharq, the decision was taken after no trace of
semen was found on her body.
Luma’s case became widely known in 2012 when details emerged of how she was tortured
by her father during a visit to him and his new wife. Reports said that the
father used wires and an iron rod to punish his daughter after he had expressed
doubts about her virginity. Luma died after four months in coma and was not
buried for another four months pending the investigation and the autopsy
procedures.

The 24-year-old grandson of the late former president was on Tuesday 25
August granted bail of R7000 by a Magistrates court in
Johannesburg where he is facing a charge of rape and sexual
assault of a 15-year-old girl at a restaurant in Greenside, Johannesburg, which occurred on
August 7.
According to a news24, the statement by a key witness Goola Singh, a chef at the restaurant where the alleged rape took place who claimed to have seen the grandson of Nelson Mandela and his teenage rape accuser kissing passionately was instrumental to his release on bail. The young man asked the court to set bail between R5 and R10000 because he was unemployed, had two children and is expecting a third one.

Obat Oil’s Mother In-Law Kidnapped
Mrs Omogbene Adeborile, 65, the the mother-in-law to Oba Fredrick
Obateru-Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugboland, has been kidnapped in Igbotako,
Ondo State. Adeborile was abducted on Saturday at her residence in Igbotako,
Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State at about 10:00 p.m.
Adeborile who is also the wife of Chief Babatunde Adeborile,
Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Igbotako Ward II , was carted away by at
least eight gunmen.

Fashola, spent N139m on the drilling of two boreholes at the Lagos House,
Ikeja. The project was completed by Deux Projects Limited according
to a report published by the state government
The report, which was part of the awarded contracts by the
Lagos State Tenders Board in 2013, was seen on the website of the Lagos State
Public Procurement Agency.
In the same year, N640m was spent by the Fashola
administration for the reconstruction of a car park and other associated works
at the Lagos House, Marina. The report stated that the N640m contract was given
to Julius Berger Plc as part of phase two of the reconstruction of Lagos House
where Fashola lived during his eight years in government.
Man Rapes Own Daughters, Step-Daughter In Lekki (Pictured)
The police in Lagos have arrested a man, Ajiboye Oluwaseyi,
for allegedly raping his two daughters ─ a six-year-old and a four-year-old ─
and his stepdaughter, 15, in the Lekki area of the state.
Our correspondent gathered that 37-year-old Oluwaseyi, who
hails from Ondo State, was arrested on Wednesday, August 19, after his wife
reported the matter to the police.
It was learnt that Oluwaseyi, who worked as a Lotto agent,
had separated from his wife in December 2014.

According to a Palace Chief who spoke anonymously, the wives of the late
Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Olubuse II, by tradition cannot
re- marry as its forbidden, they can only be inherited by the new Ooni.
This order was prescribed by the Ife tradition since the Ooni is not

Lagos Prince Arrested During Cult Initiation Ceremony (Photos)
A Lagos Prince, identified as Prince Wale Jimoh has been arrested alongside seven others during initiation rites of the Eiye Confraternity in the Jakande Roundabout, Small Kuramo, Lekki. Jimoh’s father is said to be the traditional ruler of a community in the area.
Other suspected members of the confraternity group include; Frank Mafiana (32), Robert Williams (34), Koko Etim (25), Ibrahim Ogunkoya (21), Stephen Anoh (27), Adekunle Mayegun (25), and Moris Gordian (27).

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has discovered 22 Boko Haram
members among Nigerians deported from Cameroun. The returnees were
settled at the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Mubi,
Adamawa, State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Director General of NEMA, Mr, Muhammad Sani Sidi, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja stated that, the Boko Haram members were identified with a peculiar mark on their backs.

Koide was born on March 13, 1903, and worked as a tailor when he was younger. He became the world's oldest man with the death of Sakari Momoi of Tokyo in July at age 112.
He said his secret to a long life is not to overdo, or drink or smoke. His favorite food is bread.

Thursday, 20 August at the ABC Place in Nairobi, Kenya. Mr Wanjau initiated a
funds drive on social media to raise the money by posing with Fidelis Muthoni
who is suffering from a life-threatening frontal bone defect known as Frontal
Encephalocele.
According to Nation FM, the baby had been booked for surgery in Canada but the family lacked funds. Her family said a team of doctors from Canada had offered to treat her for free if they paid for her flight and six-month stay. It was then Mr Wanjau, a close relative of the family, volunteered to conduct the funds drive, but the money was withdrawn without their knowledge and the ailing baby was never treated.

South Africa Suspends Pistorius Release
South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, serving a
five-year prison term for killing his girlfriend, may not walk free as expected
this week because the decision to release him was "premature", the
justice ministry says.
Justice Minister Michael Masutha said in a statement on
Wednesday that a June decision to release him on Friday after he had served
just one-sixth of his sentence had "no legal basis" and would be
suspended pending a parole board review.

Parrot arrested in India for insulting owner's elderly stepmother
A parrot in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, was detained by police on Tuesday
after an old woman filed a complaint against it for making obscene
remarks at her.
Janabai, who is in her 80s, filed the complaint with the police in Rajura city of Chandrapur District, saying the parrot had been tutored by its owner to shower abuses at her whenever she passed by his house.
The parrot, named Hariyal, is owned by Janabai's stepson Suresh. A complaint was also registered against him. Both live separately due to a property dispute.

Former speaker rejects his appointment by Fayose
A former factional Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Dele
Olugbemi, rejected his nomination by Governor Ayodele Fayose as a member

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the arrest of 2 fuel station owners, Lookman Onabanjo and Lukman Gafan, for allegedly dealing in petroleum products loaded from vandalised pipelines.
50-year-old Onabanjo and Gafan, 52, are the Chief Executive Officers of
Gaffa Oil and Gas Limited and Bugon Oil and Gas Limited, respectively.
The 2 were remanded shortly after their separate arraignment before Justice Mohammed Yunusa.
Arraigned and also jailed along with Onabanjo were Sani Idris, 34, and Bode Jonah, 39.
One Solomon Afolabi, 30; and Adesimisola Ogunsanya, 36, were also arraigned along with Gafan and remanded with him.
